Australian Street Entertainment Championships is an international street performance festival in the heart of Surfers Paradise. As a major event within the 2012 Surfers Paradise Festival program, the 2nd annual Australian Street Entertainment Championships will see performers from around the globe perform and entertain to be crowned victorious and collect the major prize.

The prize money is as follows – 1st place ($3,000), 2nd place ($2,000), 3rd place ($1,000). In addition, this year, selected performers will be provided with $400.00 each to contribute towards travel and expenses, access to the "performer's only chill area", and a 30 day Surfers Paradise busking permit. All performances will be on the Surfers Paradise Foreshore. A combination of people's choice vote and the Event Ambassadors decision will be used to confirm the winners.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
  1. You must read and accept the Terms and Conditions in order to be considered to perform and to qualify for the prizes element in the 2012 Australian Street Entertainment Championships.
  2. A maximum of 25 performers will be accepted to participate in this event. The Surfers Paradise Alliance [the Event Organiser] will make a determination on your Application based on the type of performance and the alignment to the Surfers Paradise brand, destination and audience. If successful you will be contacted using the details provided within your Application.
  3. Applications close at 5.00pm on Friday 18th May, 2012.
  4. Selected Street Entertainers for the event will be notified by 5:00pm on Monday 1 May 2012 via both email and preferred contact method as noted in the application.
  5. Any invitations to perform at the event that remain unanswered by 5:00pm on Monday 8 May 2012 will be forfeited.
  6. A second round of offers will be made for Street Entertainers to participate in the event by 5:00pm on Tuesday 9 May 2012..
  7. Each performance zone will have a voting box where the public will be able to vote for your performance.
  8. Finalists will be notified by their preferred contact method in the application form, between 12:00pm – 1:00pm on Sunday 1 July 2012.
  9. All Street Entertainers must be available to take part in the finals between 4:00pm and 6:00pm on Sunday 1 July 2012. If Street Entertainers chosen for the final are unable to attend the final, their position will be forfeited and the next ranked Street Entertainer will be entered.
  10. The winner of the 2012 Australian Street Entertainment Championships will be announced at the conclusion of the Final, held on Sunday 1 July 2012.
  11. The decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding their decisions.

  13. Street Entertainers are responsible for staying on schedule, within their designated stage area and leave the area in a clean manner, removing all equipment, rubbish or debris.
  14. Street Entertainers must have their own public liability insurance and be able to produce this to the Event Organiser prior to their inclusion in the event.
  15. Street Entertainers must keep the content of their performance safe, non-discriminatory, not lewd and appropriate for a family audience. Street Entertainer’s undertake to ensure their performance does not cause any harm, or endanger the public in any way.
  16. Sound levels in the entertainment are not to exceed 70 decibels. Failure to comply with this restriction will result in instant disqualification from the event.
  17. The Surfers Paradise Alliance and its judges reserve the right to disqualify Street Entertainer from the competition at any time. This decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding this decision.
  18. It is the sole responsibility of the Street Entertainer to ensure the safety and care of their belongings at all times, including any props or equipment.
  19. Full care and responsibility is the sole responsibility of the Street Entertainer for any equipment provided by the Event Organiser.
  20. Any electrical equipment provided by the Street Entertainer must be OH&S compliant. All cables, leads and associated power supply items are to be tagged and tested as per Australian Standards and not cause disturbance or harm to other entertainers, workers or visitors to the event.
  21. The Street Entertainer must not integrate dangerous elements, such as fire, pyrotechnics, weapons, sharp objects or aerial work in a performance, unless officially approved in writing by the Event Organiser.
  22. Any breach of these Terms and Conditions by the Street Entertainer will result in ineligibility for prizes and disqualification from the competition.
  23. Street Entertainers will be filmed and photographed throughout the event and the Event Organiser retains the right to use this material for any promotional or commercial use at its discretion.
  24. Surfers Paradise Alliance [Event Organiser] assumes no responsibility for damage, loss, cost or injury. The Street Entertainer is solely responsible for their own safety and enters the event at their own risk.
  25. The Event Organiser has public liability insurance to protect third parties against damage, loss, cost or injury. Should the Street Entertainer engage in any activity before, during, after or outside of the scheduled entertainment time that incurs any personal injury (including death) to any person, or damage to any property that renders this insurance void, you will be solely responsible.
  26. The 2012 Australian Street Entertainment Championship competition is open to all Australian residents and overseas entertainer’s with valid working visas.
  27. If selected to participate in this event, the Street Entertainer will be given an opportunity to obtain a buskers license that will allow performance throughout the precinct of Surfers Paradise, outside the dates of the competition.
  28. Street Entertainers that choose to perform during the Surfers Paradise Festival beyond the Street Entertainment Championships event must abide by the existing busking regulations of the precinct.
  29. Street Entertainers must perform exclusively as per their performance schedule from 9:00am on Friday 29 June 2012 to 7:00pm Sunday 1 July 2012 and nowhere else within the Festival precinct.
  30. INDEMNITY
    To the extent permitted by law and notwithstanding anything else in these Terms and Conditions the Street Entertainer indemnifies SPA against all expenses, losses, damages, penalties and costs (on a solicitor and own client basis and whether incurred by or awarded against SPAL) that SPA may sustain or incur arising out of or in any way connected with the Event, including without limitation, the bump in and bump out period, whether directly or indirectly, in relation to:
    1. any personal injury (including death) to any person or damage to any property;
    2. any breach of the T&Cs;
    3. any act or omission (including negligent acts or omissions) by the Street Entertainer;
    4. any claim or demand against SPAL in relation to any tax, levy, registration insurance;
    5. SPAL or any Related Body Corporate being found to be liable for any payment to any Street Entertainer, agent or subcontractor (if any) in respect of remuneration or to any person for any tax, levy or charge in respect of such employee, agent or subcontractor;
    6. breach by the Street Entertainer of any representation, warranty or agreement contained in or in connection with these Terms and Conditions, whether express or implied; or
    7. any act or omission of the Street Entertainer or any of the Street Entertainers employees, agents or subcontractors (if any).
    8. Each indemnity in this Agreement is a continuing and independent obligation of the party giving the indemnity; and survives termination or expiry of this Agreement. The liability of the Street Entertainer to SPAL for loss or damage sustained, shall be reduced proportionately to the extent that the loss or damage was caused or contributed to by the Street Entertainers negligence, unlawful act or omission or and/or failure to comply with its obligations under and/or in connection with these T&Cs or otherwise at law.
  31. The Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws for the time being in force in the State of Queensland
  32. Good and Services Tax (GST) is a word or expression defined in the A New Tax System (Goods and Services Tax) Act 1999 (Cth) has the meaning given to it in that Act.
