ALISON AND APPEL STREETS, SURFERS PARADISE

Like the enamoured children of the Pied Piper, you’ll be beckoned into the laneways of Appel & Alison Streets by the alluring beats of the DJ. It’s here you’ll discover a coalescence of art culture that bears more resemblance to the aesthetic facades of DeGraves St than a Surfers Paradise back alley.

Take a left at the wall art masterpiece Streetcube by Sydney artist Beastman and his posse of emerging Gold Coast artists and you’ll find Appel St lined with stalls exclusive to up-and-coming designers, vintage collections, and high-quality second-hand jumble. These adjoin a consortium of local art installations and exhibition spaces, and not to mention everyone’s favourite magic bus – back by popular demand.

The alley leads one way, and that’s toward the main stage featuring the fresh indie-pop stylings of The Holidays joined by a host of the Gold Coast’s music royalty. All of this packed like sardines into an intimate melting pot for culture-coddling art, fashion and music mavens – a soothing reminder that the earnest and original aren’t extinct in a city fast-losing the shackles of the kinky and kitsch.

Local artists at the Oneway Project Street Party are brought to you by Gold Coast City Council’s A-Venue program.
